KC Golden on addressing Climate Change and Just Transition - June 8, 2016

KC Golden, Senior Policy Advisor for Climate Solutions in Seattle, joins host Ginny Wolff for a discussion of how we must, and how we can, meet the daunting challenges of climate change. Starting with describing the impact of attending the Paris Climate Conference last year, KC Golden goes on to catalogue the numerous ways the Pacific NW, despite lack of federal political leadership, is already transitioning away from fossil fuels, and towards a clean energy economy. KC addresses how feelings of complicity, hypocrisy, shame and futility serve to silence us and keep us complacent as users of fossil fuels. He tackles the particular problems of communities such as those in Skagit County which are economically dependent on the fossil fuel industry, emphasizing the importance of citizen engagement in developing clean energy alternatives and policies that support a "just transition" from an economy dependent on fossil fuels to one supported by renewable energy.

Patrick Mazza on Climate Change - September 3, 2014

Ginny Wolff talks with long time climate advocate, Patrick Mazza - co-founder, and former Research Director for Climate Solutions. With 30 years of experience addressing the challenges of climate change, Mazza makes a case for how it is technologically possible to transition to 100% renewable energy. He succinctly summarizes the climate science which compels us to urgently make deep cuts in our carbon emissions in order to avoid the worst consequences of global warming. What is missing is political will - and he has ideas about how to get there.

Patrick Mazza blogs at cascadiaplanet@blogspot.com. In the July "archives" you will find "Eyes on the Prize: 100% Renewables Now!" - the text of the speech he gave at a rally in Seattle which prompted Speak Up! Speak Out! to request an interview.
